September 2nd Pre-Market Brief

Apple is now the hedge inside the Nasdaq

Good Morning

Private payrolls came in under what economists expected, futures barely moved.

Odds of a Fed hike this month went from about one in three a week ago to seven in ten today. Nobody is talking about cuts anymore.

Let's dig in...

Today's Big Picture

1. Williams Says The Case For A Hike Is Not Firm Yet

Traders price 70 percent odds of a quarter point hike at the September 15-16 meeting, up from 37 percent a week ago. New York Fed President John Williams said Wednesday there is no clear evidence yet that further action is needed, calling the tariff and energy price increases partly one-time. Yields reversed lower across the curve while he spoke. He is the second-ranking voice on the committee.

2. August Hiring Came From Health Care And Almost Nowhere Else

Private employers added 38,000 workers last month against the 47,000 expected, the smallest gain since January. Education and health services contributed 45,000 of that, so the rest of the private economy shed jobs on net. Manufacturing lost 17,000 and professional and business services lost 16,000. Friday's government report is forecast at 53,000.

3. European Gas Hit A Three Year High While Crude Faded

Crude gave back its overnight gains even after Iran reported two tankers hit mines in Hormuz and fired missiles at Jordan and Bahrain. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said more than 17 million barrels crossed the strait Monday, a wartime record. Dutch front-month gas, Europe's benchmark, is up about a quarter on the month with winter stockpiles running thin. That is the input feeding European rate hike bets, which is why bunds and gilts are selling harder than Treasuries.

P.S. Nuclear energy is entering a new growth cycle as rising power demand, expanding data centers, and renewed policy support bring the sector back into focus.

Dell After The Close, Broadcom Wednesday
Dell is tonight's cleanest read on whether AI spending is actually landing in enterprise servers. Palo Alto Networks and MongoDB also report after the bell. If Dell comes in soft, Broadcom Wednesday stops being a chip print and becomes the referendum on the whole physical AI trade.

Blu Dot surpasses 2,000% ROAS with self-serve CTV ads

Home furniture brand Blu Dot blew up on CTV with help from Roku Ads Manager. Here’s how:

After a test campaign reached 211,000 households and achieved 1,010% ROAS, the brand went all in to promote its annual sales event. It removed age and income constraints to expand reach and shifted budget to custom audiences and retargeting, where intent was strongest.

The results speak for themselves. As Blu Dot increased their investment by 10x, ROAS jumped to 2,308% and more page-view conversions surpassed 50,000.

“For CTV campaigns, Roku has been a top performer,” said Claire Folkestad, Paid Media Strategist, Blu Dot. “Comping to our other platforms, we have seen really strong ROAS… and highly efficient CPMs, lower than any other CTV partner we've worked with.”

Using Roku Ads Manager, the campaign moved from a pilot to a permanent performance engine for the brand.
